Generation And Development Mechanism Of Trust In It Outsourcing

The industry of IT outsourcing is developing rapidly, since the Kodak successfully outsourced its information systems to IBM in 1989. In order to achieve the stratigies and improve the compenteces, more and more companies make the IT outsourcing to gain professional IT servies. However, some stateticses have showed that most of companies thought that the IT outsourcing didn't make the expected profits. Meanwhile, after the signement of IT contracts, manageming the relation of IT outsourcing becomes more difficult. Clients always have little knowledge about IT, which become more serious after the IT outsourcing. The suppliers also know little about chlient's business.these can cause the information asymmetry among the collaboration. The supplier can take actions by use of the information asymmetry to damage the client's interest. The supplier may provide unqualified staff or service. The supplier may update the client's IT/IS out of time. The client may hide its business information by means of information asymmetry,which arise the operational cost and risk for the supplier. The paper conducts research about how to establish and develop the trust between the client and supplier in IT outsourcing to resolve the problems caused by the information asymmetry.The thesis is mainly with academic anlysis, inlucding the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis and researches one of the important factors in IT outsourcing -trust. The thesis describes the reason that trust is needed, the approaches of establishing the trust, and the developing stage of trust in IT outsourcing.The thesis's conclution are: the trust can eliminate the risk caused by the information asymmetry in the collaboration; and there are four approaches of establishing the trust, the process-based trust, the characteristic-based trust, the institution-based trust and the information technology-based trust; there are two stages of trust devekopment, the stage of knowledge and the stage of cognition.The thesis contains six parts. The first part is about the researched problems. The second part is the review of related theories. The third part is the establishing mechanism of trust. The fourth part is the devekoping mechanism of trust. The fifth part is the case study that is the IT outsourcing of China Development Bank with HP. The sixth part is about the conclusion and further research.
