Inventory is like a double-edged sword.Effective inventory control enhances production efficiency;mitigates delivery risk in case of urgent demand which is not forecasted accurately.On the other hand,inventory may be the costliest operating expense for manufacture.Continuous improvement on inventory turnover optimize the productivity and profitability,making inventory control a competitive advantage that drives company performance.Since the 1990s,a series of advanced inventory management technologies have come into being,AFR(aggregate Forecasting and Replenishment),VMI(Vendor managed inventory),JMI(Jointly managed inventory) & CPFR(collaborative planning,Forecasting and Replenishment).All of these technologies are expected to solve the core issue:How to secure the right amount of stock in the right place at the right time.Specific processes will vary from one factory to another.Every corporation should choose the most suitable process based on its products and market environment.By analyzing the supply chain management process of Alcatel Lucent Shanghai bell,we get to know how the inventory works,find the best way to manage the inventory,improve the inventory turnover,reduce the cost of inventory,and improve the core competitiveness of enterprises.The Paper is divided into the following four aspects on:1.Introduction of business and industry background.2.Supply chain management process of Optics product in Alcatel Lucent Shanghai hell.3.Analysis of current inventory.4.Find a good way to improve inventory management in each step.
