BASF is the world's leading chemical company, whose headquarter are located at German. BASF has over 95,000 employees worldwide and posted sales of almost (?)58 billion in 2007. Its product portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, performance products, agricultural products and fine chemicals to crude oil and natural gas.BASF has been a committed partner to Greater China since 1885. It is one of the biggest foreign investors in the Chinese chemical industry. The company currently has more than 6,000 employees and operates 23 wholly owned subsidiaries and 10 joint ventures. In 2007, BASF achieved sales of about (?)4.4 billion in Greater China.Based on the common recognitions of "new theory of multinational company", the core competitive advantage of those multinational company are what they owned preponderant resources especially the strategic resource, of which preponderant strategic resource are not only formed at their motherland or headquarter, but also can be formed from their invested country or sub-company distributed worldwide. Now BASF not only extend their theory of "Verbund" which had bought the traditional core competition to the company form production side to operation side, but also extend this theory to the cooperation with customer and sustainable development of responsibility, thus form and gain the update core competition from all their invested country or area.Engineering plastic, as a sort of thermal-plastic material which have the better strength and heat resistance than that of general plastic, normally used as the structure material or functional material in most of industry—a kind of high performance material. Now it has developed as one of fastest grown speed material in the world. The parts made of engineering plastic are widely used at those industries such as electrical, electronics, automotive, communication, etc. Currently, China is the biggest potential consumption market worldwide with very hot competition market.As the largest engineering plastic multinational supplier, BASF plastic business unit have various engineering plastic product with traditional strategic preponderant resource, hereinafter will survey what traditional advantage of BASF Engineering plastic business unit and their evolutional core competitive advantage based on the sight of view strategic management, also their new vision of "solution provider".
