China's Joint-stock Commercial Bank Ownership Structure And Governance Performance Study

The ownership structure is an important factor to judge whether the banking system in a country is good or not. The scholars have different views about constucting an ownership so as to improve the performance of the commercial bank.This article first to had the review on the research, and then based on the elementary theory, introduce the relationship between ownership structure and the performance of the firm. Then, select indicators which reflect commercial bank about property quality, profit condition, fluidity and secure level, carry on the factorial analysis. In the process of analysis, we used the factor analysis method to examine the Commercial bank. The paper processes the regressive analysis using the related data from 7 commercial banks from 2000-2006 in China.And the panel data analysis is different from current studies, which only used one-year data to do a regression analysis to study the relation between corporate governance and the performance.The pannel data would result in a more convinceble conclusion.Based on the theoretical and empirical analysis,some conclusions are drawn as followings: The proportion of the first largest shareholders of the commercial bank have Positive effects on its performance; concentration indicators of the stockownership have Positive effects on the performance of the commercial bank; The relativity between indicators of keeping the balance between the different stockholders and its performance can not get across satistical distinct test; the ratio of the negotiable stocks and the proportion of state-owned shares have negative effect on the performance of the commercial banks remarkably.But the corporate shares is positive with the performance of the commercial banks distinctly.Lastly,the scale of the commercial bank has Positive effects on its performance.In the end,we put forward the suggestion to improve the governance effect of Chinese listed banks' structure from these sides including the ownership structure in the listed bank, the capital market mechanism and to set up our financial holding companies.
