In the intense market competition, firms may usually more care about some functional strategies, such as market strategy, product strategy, technology strategy, and so on. However, they are only external and dominant decisions and at most can obtain transient and local advantage. By a long-time perspective, firms'competitive advantages are determined by the construction of core competence by lower value and higher speed beyond competitors. Core competence, also called core competitive competence, which is instinctive and can bring firms long-term competitive advantage and stable economic profit, is the combination of development strategy, firm's architecture, system, stuffs, and all sorts of knowledge, technologies and skills, cultures and management styles. Core competences and its strategy purposes have close relationships and it can bring firm constant successes only by combination of two sides. In this paper, we set an example of Sichuan Chengfa Aero Science & Technology Co, Ltd (SCFAST) and discuss the evaluation of firm's core competence and its evolution processes.SCFAST has progressively ascertained its strategic position and future purpose: to be world grade component supplier of aero-engine and aero-gas turbine and to become excellent firm in the field. Performances of SCFAST in years are not only reflections of its correct product strategy or its progressive manufacturing capabilities, but also the reflection of its progression of market competitive competence and gradual construction processes of its core competence of long-term competitive advantage in markets. Any excellent firm can not come into being in one night and it needs construction, development and maturing processes of core competence. It is a common aim to become excellent firm and SCFAST itself has instinctive paths to be excellent firm, in which the key point is how to correctly recognize and develop its competence. So it forms the original intention and significant value of the research.In this paper, we introduce the firm's core competence and excellent firm as research objects by the example of SCFAST and construct the theory base by the theories of firm's core competence, Mckinsey's 7-S model, and evaluation methods of firm's core competence and paths of constructing core competence. Then, we conclude the core competence of SCFAST and give an evaluation of its core competence and analyze its main factor. Next, we analyze the development and evolution processes of core competences of SCFAST. It include the changes of firm's property right structures and incentive mechanisms, construction processes of core competences based on 7-S, and the development trajectory. For future development of core competence, we introduce the direction principles and strategy plans and give future strategies and innovation approaches by future market analysis. Finally, we give the whole conclusion and future research perspective and figure out shortcomings and next researches.
