Kunming Machinery Manufacturing Enterprise Information Systems Success Factors

The primary purpose of this study is to empirically identify and test the Critical Success Factors(CSF) of Information Systems implementation in the mechanical manufacturers in Kunming. Based on extensive literature review, six CSF are indentified and defined, namely: Top management support, Project management, Business process management, Government directly support, Government guidance, and External expertise support. An Information Systems success model is proposed to be the guide . The other purpose of this study is to explore the moderated effects of Organizational size.A survey instrument is developed to measure CSF, Information Systems success and context factors. 63 mechanical manufactures industry in Kunming which have carried out the information system project have been studied in the way of delivering the question-paper and on-the-spot investigation, Meanwhile, the data from the 113 question-paper were analyzed and, with reexamine the model designed for this study, I conclude some results as follows:First, among the factors inside these enterprises, Top management support, Project management and Business process management are tested to be the CSF for IS implementation in the mechanical manufacturers in Kunming. Business process management has the most significant positive effect on IS success.Second, among the factors outside these enterprises, Government directly support, Government guidance, and External expertise support are the CSF, Especially, the governmental leading has the most significant positive effect on IS success.Third, Consulting Support, one sub-factors of External expertise support, is tested not CSF. Some possible reasons of this result from the both sides of consulting and enterprises are discussed.Forth, In our research framework, the organizational size has no effect on the project implementation.Based on the conclusions above, this essay gives some brief suggestions on how to successfully implement the information system project in the mechanical manufacturers in Kunming from the viewpoint of the government and the enterprises themselves.
