Yangtze River Shipping Industry Cluster Research

Theory of Industrial clusters was put forward by Professor Michael E Porter who was a famous strategy administrator. In special location Industrial clusters have competitive and cooperative relation, which are composed of centralized and related companies in geography,professional suppliers, service providers,financial institutions,correlative manufacturers and other related organization, it takes on quite strong competitiveness. In recent years, industrial clusters have played more and more important role in regional and even global economic development worldwide, industrial clusters are a new economic organization in current world economy.It is necessary to start research of the shipbuilding industrial clusters since the shipbuilding industry in our country is being concentrated in some regions and the phenomenon of clustering is emerging. The Yangtze River Delta is one of the most important shipbuilding bases in China, representing the comprehensive strength of China's shipbuilding industry. The research and promotion of shipbuilding industrial clusters in Yangtze River Delta is not only an inevitable choice to achieve goals of China's shipbuilding industry, but also an important way to develop the economy of Yangtze River Delta further.Based on theories of industrial cluster and economics, this paper studied the shipbuilding industrial clusters in the Yangtze River Delta, both theoretically and empirically. Firstly this paper introduced the basic cluster theory and discussed the meaning, constitute and characteristic of shipbuilding industrial clusters. And then based on game theory, this paper analyzed the formation and development of shipbuilding industrial cluster. The lifecycle of shipbuilding cluster is also discussed. Secondly, after the analyzing of the examples of successful shipbuilding industry clusters abroad, this paper analyzed the status of shipbuilding industry in china especially the Yangtze River Delta by means of statistical methods. At last, this paper proposed some suggestions to develop the shipbuilding industrial cluster in Yangtze River Delta further.
