In management practices, lots of managers always complain they have too many jobs to do and too many things to deal with every day, what's the reason? Reasons come from various aspects, among which the most important one has been proven to be that these managers can not use "authorization" properly. They can not distinguish clearly what should be done by them themselves and what should not; and can not understand the relationship between the words "routine" and "exception" deeply, i.e. they have trouble in dealing with exception management. The term exception management, which was brought forth by F. W. TayLor, refers to a kind of management system or rule that senior management should standardize the procedures and methods of treating with those routine jobs and authorize them to junior management, holding the right of supervision and inspection, and they themselves only focus on dealing with various exceptions which have not been or could not be standardized, "exception principle" should be applied widely to guarantee that senior management have enough time and energy to work as leaders, hence company leaders may put less time and energy on those repetitious daily work, and concentrate on those most important issues, so as to improve junior management's passion and ability of working independently. In this way, senior management can leave those systematized and standardized jobs for relevant departments to deal with and usually don't get any hand in.The insurance company P (hereinafter as P company), which was founded in January 2001, is a nationwide joint-stock life insurance company specializing in various life insurance business, with its headquarters based in Shanghai, China. As P company has developed quickly in its insurance business scale, its management system has been lagged behind its business development to some extent. In recent years, P company put emphasizes in enhancing its management level and made some obvious progresses, but its management system is not so good in standardization and specialization yet, among which there are lots of informal and fuzzy, even "dead angle" aspects, all of which may not be attention-getting for the first time, but will constrain the company' s development according to their expansion and accumulation in the long run. Therefore, emphasizing and applying exception management should be very important to P company. The management practices of P company has always emphasized that any work should be done carefully and concretely, with the goal as enhancing the standardization and specialization level of company management, so as to make the operation of organization and procedures to be more effective and more fluent, as well as improving the core competitive power of P company to the utmost. The process of standardization and specialization, in fact, is the process of making those exceptional issues be routinized and standardized. From that point of view, it is the necessary way for P company to emphasize exception management in order to realize the standardization and specialization of company management system. The article includes six chapters.
