Since China's entry to WTO, the limits to the foreign banks in financial market have been gradually cancelled under the agreement. The financial service market will make rapid development, and the Chinese banks will also face the heavy competition. Therefore, how Chinese banks, specially the state-owned commercial banks win the challenge, enhance the competitiveness, has become one exceptionally urgent and the serious issue. This paper attempts to deal with the issue.Bases on the measurement of market performance of Chinese banks and foreign banks, the thesis makes a through analyses and comparison the competitiveness of the state-owned commercial bank and the domestic and foreign joint-venture bank. The thesis summarizes disparity of state-owned bank and the domestic and foreign joint stock system banks, and propose the strategy to promote the state-owned banks' competitiveness.This thesis goes as following: The first chapter raises the question, introduces the main appraisal methods and the present studies of the commercial bank achievements and the competitiveness, introduces the research method and the conclusion of the paper; The second chapter states the present situation of our state-owned commercial banks. During the course I employ concentration ratio index and Herfindahl-Hirshman index to analyses the banking market structure. Simultaneously, I analysis our commercial bank's profit, rate of income as a percentage of total assets, profit rate of net worth; The third chapter compares our state-owned commercial banks with the domestic and foreign joint stock system commercial banks from five aspects—the rate of capital sufficiency, the property quality, the management level, profitability and the property liquidity. Then I deduce the main causes influencing the state-owned commercial banks' achievements. The fourth chapter puts forward the corresponding countermeasure proposal.By anglicizing, this thesis draws the following conclusions:1st, market concentration ratio indicates that our banking market presents the obvious duality.
