In the first chapter of this article, we described a continuously optimizing and developing process of ERP system by reviewing relative theories and contemporary business objectives in different period, then made a brief introduction of BPR's concept and theoretical background, disclosed a dialectic relationship between ERP and BPR by analyzing internal relations of management therories represented in ERP and BPR. The second chapter made an analysis of actual situation of ERP implementation of listed domestic companies, which told us that the high failure rate is a truth, but we are not worse than our international counterparts. After analyzing the common causes of failure from the points of both buyer and seller, we drew a conclusion that the key success factor of ERP includes two parts: successful BPR and advanced project management methodology. The third chapter gave a further introduction about this conclusion. Firstly, we proposed four critical principles to ensure success of BPR, and then highly summarized the content of PMBOK methodology. By mapping critical factors into 5 process groups and 9 knowledge domains of the methodology, we made a detailed analysis of each critical success factor with the help of working practice and experience. The viewpoint of this article was proved practically by study of a positive case and a negative case in the last chapter.
