After entering 21st century, Japan's foreign direct investment has dropped by a large margin again and come about some changes. These changes have very extensive contents, involving project scale, investment object, investment content, investment purpose, overseas employment, overseas research and development, overseas procurement and overseas selling, and almost contain everything in Japan's foreign direct investment. The reasons which cause these new changes, not only include objective factors, but also include subjective factors; not only stem from the responses to the exterior investment environment and market environment's changes, but also stem from Japanese corporations' investment abilities and strategic considerations; not only under the external pressures, but also under the internal impetuses. These factors will affect the development tendency of Japan's foreign direct investment in future. Looking from prospect of Japan's foreign direct investment, in a short time, limited by economic uncertain factors such as walking with difficulties, it will be still in an adjustment of dropping and going up. In a medium or long term, because there are still some favorable factors in Japan's economy, such as potentiality to achieve sustainable economic growth, especially under the condition that China will become and continue becoming the largest and the most favorable target of Japan, there is possibility of meeting rising and new development in it.In the course of writing, I have not merely carried on repeated ponder, deliberation and innovation in weighing the choices of index, the visual angles of analysis and research, but also revised the materials and contents in my thesis, up to the constant datum renewals of Japan's institutions such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications, etc.. Meanwhile, to emphasize the "new" of Japan's foreign direct investment's changes at the beginning of 21st century, the time span which I have selected is only the 1990s so far. In such a small time span, summarizing almost every aspect of the new changes, can be rated as one "new" of my thesis.
