The Mega-cities Of The Western Region Of Foreign Direct Investment (fdi) Is A Comparative Study

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in China has been increasing steadily from 1990th. Since 1993, China has become the largest acceptance developing country of FDI in the world. The massive influx of foreign capital has played an important role for promoting economic growth in China. However,due to various factors, Foreign Direct Investment in China shows serious imbalances. With a new round of the policy of western development proposed, the western region will become hotspots of investment in China. Xi'an, Chengdu and Chongqing are the attracting investment cities in hot investment area. How is the FDI development in these cities? How to do well to coordinate the balance of FDI development and to expand the scale of investment in these three metropolis? All these questions are worthy of consideration. At present,many comparative research of FDI are concentrated in the eastern,the middle and the western area of China,or concentrated in eastern coastal areas. There is few comparative research of FDI in the western cities of China.Three western metropolis in China, including Xi'an, Chengdu and Chongqing were selected as research objects in this paper. At first, by comparing a series of investment indicators of FDI, we know the status of FDI used in these three metropolis. Including comparing the scale of FDI, the structure of FDI source, the industrial distribution of FDI, the quality of investment and the invest way of FDI. Secondly, by comparing the impacts of FDI for regional economic development, we find out the differences among these three metropolis on attracting FDI. Including comparing the impact of FDI on local economic growth, the structure of industry, the local import and export trade and the employment. Tirdly, by comparing the performance of FDI in the three metropolis, we try to find out advantages and disadvantages of different cities. Including comparing the performance index and the potential index of FDI used in the three metropolis. Through the study of this paper, we hope to provide important references for western cities to expand the scale and the balance of FDI, and to give advice to promote the development of FDI.The research conclusions are as follows:First, by comparing a series of investment indicators of FDI in these three metropolis, we know that in recent years, the scale of investment in the three metropolis are gradually widening the gap while increasing steadily; the constitute of FDI source in three metropolis is similar, more than 60% of investment is from Asia; the flow of industrial is similar, and the industry distribution is not reasonable; the special funds in Xi'an is the highest and each size of project in Chongqing is the most; the main invest way in the three metropolis is sole proprietorship. Second, through the comparison of FDI impacts in the three big cities, we found that in the existing economic scale, the scale of FDI in Xi'an is more than Chengdu and Chongqing, but the the spillover effects of FDI are obviously lower than Chengdu and Chongqing.Third, the performance index of FDI in the three big cities increased obviously, the potential index of FDI in Chengdu and Chongqing increased fast, but that in Xi'an declined obviouslly.The research innovations are as follows:First, the innovation of study object:current researches of FDI are mainly concentrated on the national level, or concentrated in developed provinces, but we select the western cities which have extremely potentiality as research object;Second, the innovation of multiple-choice angle:this study is not concentrated in a certain region, but make a comparative study by choosing three western cities;Third, the innovative of research methods:in this paper, we combinate the theoretical and empirical research, and use the statistical software SPSS to make regression analysis.
