Research On The "language-worship" In The Folk Customs Of Jian'ou

The language-worship is a unique language phenomenon, which means that the language itself or the function of the language is deified. The phenomenon has still existed widely in folk customs in every part of China, which can be divided into the deified letters and the deified function. And it can reflect the humans' spirit and psychology in the folk language. Because the language-worship can be seen in linguistics and folklore.By means of the analysis and research on the language-worship phenomenon in the folk customs of Jian'ou, this article argues, The language-worship phenomenon in the folk customs of Jian'ou can be mainly found in letters, pictures, speech and objections. And this phenomenon deify the function of the language in the way of rhetoric, such as homophonic, metaphor, circumbendibus, metonymy and so on. There are two sectors in the language-worship in the folk customs of Jian'ou:the language worship and the language taboos. Springing from the humans'idea of drawing on the advantages and avoiding the disadvantages, these two sectors have the functions of magic, education, religious enlightenment and mental adjustment. The idea and these functions are widely recognized by the local humans, so the language-worship phenomenon can be found in every respects in the folk customs in Jian'ou, which inherits and develops continuously. And it's helpful for the study on both linguistics and folklore, keeping the unique geographical culture and leading to rethink our daily life.
