In the recent years, Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor) has been increasingly emphasized and worshipped, and the ritual of offering sacrifices to Huangdi's Tomb has been more and more spectacular. But this ritual was questioned and caused some controversy. For example, someone argued that "the 'official' practice of the Huangdi's Tomb worship is unlawful". People responded to these questioning by demonstrating that Huangdi is the ancestor of Chinese nation, practicing ancestor worship is a traditional custom in China, and the ritual of offering sacrifices to Huangdi's Tomb has a long history, etc. But all these explanations are not satisfying, because very few people did good research on the ritual of worshipping Huangdi's Tomb practiced in the present days and in the history. People only see that this ritual is a tradition lasting from ancient times, but they don't see the break of this tradition, nor do they see that the ritual has been interpreted differently by different people in different periods of time; they only see that this ritual is a "great tradition" or official ceremony, but don't see the "little tradition" or the local use of the ritual in the local area; they only see people worshipping the ancestor, but don't see their manipulation of the symbol of "Huangdi", as well as Huangdi's Tomb and the ritual of...
