Embedded system is composed of embedded processor, supporting hardware circuit, embedded operating system and application software, and it is a blend of software and hardware which can work independently. Along with the rapid development of science and technology, embedded system has become another focus of IT. It has been widely applied to many fields including network control, multimedia, and portable communication, and changed the way of people's lives.All related semiconductor companies published kinds of embedded micro-processors with various features to seize the market. MN103E, produced by Panasonic Semiconductor Corporation, is an efficient 32bits width micro-controller with low power consumption. It has simple structure and good performance, which is very suitable for data processing and real-time controlling. A new evaluation board system based on MN103E is designed in this thesis, including hardware platform designing and software system porting.Firstly, the definition and the development of embedded system are introduced, and the embedded micro-processor and the embedded operation system are stated. Then, the characteristic of MN103E and the address space are elaborated, and the registers of the MN103E bus interface are introduced. Based on them, the overall design of hardware and software system is proposed.After that, all modules of hardware platform of the evaluation board are designed in detail, including memory system, communication system, human interface and assistant circuit. A new debugging system based on PSRAM is proposed, and the CPLD circurit simplifies the complexity of the system. Then, the software porting is designed in detail. The software system is made up of U-Boot, Linux kernel and file system. U-Boot porting is elaborated in this thesis, which is the first time U-Boot is ported to the MN103E architecture. And the porting of Linux kernel and Busybox file system is analyzed in detail.Finally, the software test system is designed to verify the features of the evaluation board system. The implementation of this evaluation board is the basis of the embedded application developing on MN103E.
