This dissertation designs a video compression subsystem and a decompression subsystem for Ultra-wideband communication system. The compression subsystem provides video signal source and the decompression subsystem restore the video at the receiving end. Both of them are important component of the Ultra-wideband communication system.The paper introduces international standards for video processing technology and analyzes their characteristics. According to the working conditions, the paper chooses the proper chip for video compression and decompression. With the selected video processing chip, the paper designs the workflow of the video compression and decompression subsystems and chooses the other chips.This dissertation details the chips'operating modes and registers configuration. The correct and reasonanle chip configurations are the basic requirements for UWB communication system to work.After hardware circuits are completed, VHDL programme should be designed to operate the systems, to configure the chips, to control data transmission, to control chips' working state and so on. Through simulation and testing the VHDL programme, we meet the design requirements.
