Research And Implementation Of Source-specific Multicast Routing Protocol

With the development and popularity of Internet, the network is applied to various fields. Meanwhile, it requires more and more bandwidth to meet the demand of multimedia applications. The increase of network bandwidth makes it possible for many high bandwidth applications such as remote education, video conference network games, VOD and data synchronization of distributed clusters.These applications in return require higher bandwidth and make network congestion worse.Typical characteristics of these applications are high bandwidth and multicast, and a brilliant idea to solve the issue is to deploy IP multicast technology.This thesis researches and compares varies multicast algorithms, multicast protocols and forwarding strategies,along with their features and uses.Traditional multicast model was proposed in 1980s,but hasn't been applied widely in Internet because of its shortages.New SSM multicast service model, which can overcome the shortages of traditional multicast model, hopefully could be widely deployed on Internet in the near future. today's Internet multicast architecture and problems of it are discussed, of which PIM-SM model is fully researched, SSM is said to be easy-to-implement, extendable and access controllable new service model;These are foundation of the applying of new multicast model. NS-2 simulator software, its internal structure and how to use it to research network protocols are investigated, emphasis on the implementation mechanism of its multicast simulation; based on NS-2, the new PIM-SSM multicast model are implemented, and simulate PIM-SSM with it,analyze the results of its implementations on delaying,routing and loss rate,and compare it with PIM-SM.This thesis introduce multicast techniques, multicast routing protocols and other basic concepts,and research the PIM-SM multicast model.On the base of it,SSM multicast model is analyzed.Through the extence of NS,the SSM is implemented.The results are compared with PIM-SM; this lay some foundation for further research of SSM, and can be used for reference by SSM practical application.
