A wireless Ad Hoc network is a collection of mobile nodes that are able to communicate among themselves over possibly multi-hop paths, without the help of any special infrastructure such as base stations. The Ad Hoc networks have widespread commercial and military applications. Military and security sensitive applications are the main uses of wireless Ad Hoc networks. With the explosive increase of Ad Hoc networks size, Ad Hoc networks are suffering more and more loss packets and some performance depravation problems, and network congestion is one of the severe problems. The direct result of the network congestion is the performance decline of the whole network that includes:the packet loss rate increases, the end-to-end delay increases, the network throughput decreases, and the network system may go through congestion collapse. When the network is in the state of congestion collapse, the network throughput will decrease sharply with tiny load increment. There are many reasons that cause network congestion, and the main of which are listed as follows:the lack of buffer capacity, the lack of bandwidth, the low ability of processor, the weakness of the TCP/IP protocol congestion control, the intended attack of some users, the chaos and bifurcation of the network system.Widely adopted as a data transfer protocol in current Internet, TCP/IP performs badly in Ad Hoc networks because of its congestion control algorithm. Congestion control algorithm for Ad Hoc networks is proposed. In this paper, congestion control in wireless Ad Hoc networks is depicted and congestion state is analyzed. Data flow state equation (DFSE) and the congestion control algorithm for wireless Ad Hoc networks based on DFSE is proposed. DFSE is combined with characters of wireless Ad Hoc networks. The situation value of node in wireless Ad Hoc networks is defined by the weighted average level value of priority, security, traffic ability, mobility and work amount. The congestion control algorithm based on DFSE is made some modifications and may be used by difference of nodes.
