With the continuous improvement of computer technology, the integration of telecommunication network, the Internet, and cable television network is a general trend. As an alternative to the traditional telecommunication network, VoIP has many advantages such as low cost, easy deployment, convenient update, feature richness, and so on. The potential development of VoIP is great.VoIP application layer protocols such as MGCP, SIP bring the IP address, port and other information, so when traversing traditional NAT devices they will encounter the problem of failure. For enterprises that have deployed or are about to deploy VoIP equipment, the problem for VoIP protocols to traverse NAT equipment has become urgent. Therefore, in this article the author researches into the NAT traversing problem of MGCP, which is an important VoIP protocol, and then designs and implements an initial solution.First, the author analyzes MGCP protocol's data formats, communication processes, as well as the problems that may occur through the process of NAT traversing.Second, the author analyzes the actual situation in different application scenes for MGCP protocol, designs and achieves a common NAT traversal tool for MGCP protocol. Finally, the author tests the achieved tool, by comparing the MGCP protocol data before and after NAT traversing, and by using the network phone software that supports MGCP protocol to verify the "correctness of the tool. The test result shows that the NAT traversal tool for MGCP protocol has achieved the expected objectives; it can effectively solve the NAT traversal problem of MGCP protocol. It is worth of subsequent development.
