This paper provides a new solution for the billing system for public facility, which is usually difficult to be accurate. Without changing the circuit of electric devices, this paper applies cameras for reading digits of electric meters, then recognizes those digits'image, and transfers data with a noval short-distance wireless communicating technique, ZigBee, to construct a billing system for public facility.This paper uses M5253EVB development board, provided by Freescale, to connect USB camera to read digits of electric meters, runs uClinux on it, and applies pattern-recognizing method to recognize digits. M52233DEMO development board and MC13192U-wireless transceiver is applied for wireless data transferring.This paper is the overall design for the billing system of public facility, and focus on the transplanting of uClinux operating system, patching the code of USB core, developing USB camera drivers, digital image pattern-recognizing, and developing ZigBee wireless module.The outstanding characteristic of this system is no need of changing electric circuit. It focuses on focal spots, and could be widely used for the billing system for public facility. Meanwhile, the systemic design defines a clear interface pattern, which contributes to further extending and upgrading.
