The technologies of computers have been used in most fields of the national defense, national economy and society. As the external storage device of computer system, the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) has been used not only in personal computers and servers but the portable devices and the electric products. It has been the most important storage system for the programs and the date. But, hard disk drive is a flimsy device, the random shock and vibration maybe cause it work failure or damage. As the increase of magnetic recording densities and rotating speed of disk, the dynamic characteristics of the mechanical parts become more and more prominent. Especially, the performance of shock and vibration resistance has been the most important guideline in the design of HDD.In order to improve the performance of shock and vibration resistance of HDD, it's necessary to analysis the dynamic characteristics of the head disk interface of HDD. And then find the influence factor of the anti-shock performance of HDD. This paper overviewed the domestic and foreign research present situation in static and dynamic characteristics of the head disk interface of HDD. And then analysis the basic structure of HDD, its working principle, the technology and parameters of head disk interface. Based on its working principle, a two-DOF head disk system kinetic and mathematical model were founded. The contact forces between each parts of HDD and the differential equations of head disk interface were calculated. Then the response of head disk separation when the HDD subjects to external shock was got. According to the structure of hard disk drive and the contact constraints among parts, the solid model and finite element model of one inch micro HDD were built.Based on this finite element model of HDD and by applying corresponding boundary conditions and impact loads, the dynamic characteristics of HDD when it subject to shock were simulated by using dynamics analysis software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. How the amplitude, pulse width and shape of acceleration load influence the parameters as head disk separation, disk deformation, roll and pitch angle of suspension were studied. The results of finite element simulation verified the correctness of kinetic model which was built for head disk interface in HDD.This thesis gives theory support and experiment foundation for farther research in building kinetic model of head disk interface with more DOF and the finite element simulation study of anti-shock performance considering molecular force.
