The measurement of the oil film thickness on water surface is of much importance on the fields of environment protection, chemical analysis and dynamics of oil slick spreading. A method for the measurement of oil film thickness on ocean surface is presented based on differential laser trigonometry. This method, on the advantage of simplicity, convenience, low cost, high accuracy, small size and non-contact, can be used to measure the thickness of oil spill film on ocean surface on line, which promises a bright application future.Based on differential laser trigonometry principle the main work includes:1. After the research of differential laser trigonometry principle, mathematical expression of the oil film thickness measurement is given out.2. An optical sensor is designed to measure the thickness of the oil spill film on ocean surface. Then mechanical structure is designed.3. The data acquisition system and the calculation procedure is designed on VC++ platform in the computer. The system realizes the synchronic data acquisition of two CCD cameras. Methods for the laser spot location are studied, based on which the thickness measurement is accomplished.4. Calibration method for the differential laser trigonometry thickness measurement system is researched. The method named isoline bilinear look-up tables is used to calibration the system. After the experiment of different light path, the parameters are determined.5. The experiment system of oil film thickness measurement on the water surface is designed. After debugging the system, the feeler gauge and block gauge thickness is measured, and the result shows that the system could achieve high degree of accuracy. The oil with different kind and different thickness is measured, and the results indicate that the system is applicable for the oil measurement.
