Robot technology is a multi-disciplinary high technology which integrates the knowledges of computer, artificial intelligence, mechanical, electronics and other areas. With the advancement and development of science and technology, the activities of human being have been expanded dramatically. It has been considered as a main development trend in the 21st century to employ robot to serve humankind. Mobile robot, which is playing an increasingly important role in the economic, national defense, education, culture and life, is an effective tool and the experimental platform to explore the emergence of intelligent behavior and the model of human thought.This paper tries to develop an intelligent mobile robot system based on the existing mature methods and models in robotic technology. The system designed a two-wheel drive mobile robot based on an ATmega128 of AVR high-performance AVR microcontroller and. Selected the relevant motors and sensors.The control hardware, including power supply module, ultrasonic sensor module, infrared sensor module, collision switch module, motor module, LCD module, serial communication module and other circuit module, is designed by applying modular design methodology, and completed hardware schematic design, PCB circuit board drawing, welding and hardware circuit debugging.The key modules of the abovementioned modules including the motor driver, obstacle detection and measuring distance based on the principles of the ultrasonic and infrared are explored in detail. The control flow of the system is designed implementede ,which tested and verified by experiment . The theory and method of complete coverage path planning for mobile robot are also researched based on the proposed mobile robot in this paper. A simulation environment is developed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Finally, transplanteing the algorithm into the controller to carry out experimental verification, the experiment showes that the design of intelligent mobile robot is able to complete tha task of the whole room's traversal walking. The result mets expectations.
