Fax Over Mobile:research And Realization

Even though the e-mail is very popular these days, fax is still widely used and getting increasingly demanded, because of its real-time transmission, high reliability and better data security. However, traditional fax machines consume large amount of printing materials, receive junk fax files in unmanned operation, and cannot monitor and record the fax activities because of the poor fax management.In pursuit of solutions to the problems discussed above, a new fax system based on mobile phones is discussed in this paper. Named Fax Over Mobile (FOM), the new system comes with a range of advantages. Any printable documents in the computer can be sent directly to a remote fax machine without printing and copying. Received fax files can be saved in local computers as electronic documents and be published onto user mobiles with MMS. No printing papers or ink are required in the fax process and there is no constrain on when and where the file is faxed or checked. Therefore, the cost of office works can be reduced and the working efficiency will be boosted up.This thesis describes the project in detail, including SMS supporting sub-system and mobile fax billing sub-system. For the SMS supporting sub-system, a frame work and a fundamental billing procedure is designed with the given specification and application model. For the mobile fax pricing sub-system, an interface to the mobile billing system is designed and implemented. The new system, FOM, is developed with mobile communication system, network technology and database technology. Now the FOM has been tested and integrated into the overall system for trail operation.
