The thesis designed a new PLC control system to substitute the original control system in Glass Manufacturing Corporation. The original control system was made up of single chip microcomputers, relays and instruments measuring the weight, but had some shortcomings, such as low accuracy in blending, low system stability, etc. The new control system is composed of PLC, industrial control computer, and sensors measuring the weight. By analyzing the malfunctions that appeared frequently in the manufacturing process, the thesis introduced a systematic means of fault detection and diagnosis. The main content in the thesis is as following: 1. Introduction of the technological flow in the glass manufacturing and blending system. 2. Summary of the shortcomings in the existing blending systems and introduction of the new blending system with new control algorithms, such as fuzzy control, to improve the blending accuracy. 3. Design of the control system, choice of the hardware and design of the control circuit. 4. Design of the software system of the blending system, including the software controlling the PLC and the software managing the industrial control computer. 5. Design of the strategy of the fault detection and diagnosis: to monitor online the PLC and external equipment by industrial control computer; to monitor the status of the blending system, find the fault and give the solution through the expert system. 6. Install and debug the new blending system.
