Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a new technology which is thought highly of in academic circle and industrial circle and has a bright future of application. WSN does not need any infrastructural facility and can work in real time to supervise, apperceive and collect information in all kinds of environment. Otherwise, it processes the collected information and sends it to the Sink wirelessly.WSN is a network of self-organization, low-power and short-range. One of its characteristics is power-limited, which is the main research problem of our clustering routing protocols. In the paper, our design aim is to efficiently economize and balance the network energy and prolong the life time of whole network.Clustering routing protocols normally consist of three phases:cluster formation, inter-cluster tree formation and data transmission. A energy-balanced clustering protocol with master/slave method (EBCMS) is proposed in cluster formation phase. Otherwise, an enhancement of hierarchy cluster-tree routing protocol (EHCT) is designed in cluster-tree formation phase. EBCMS is different from the traditional protocols. It selects one master cluster head and two slave cluster head for each cluster in cluster formation phase, whereas, the traditional protocols only select one cluster head which may lead to the early death of cluster head. In inter-cluster tree formation phase, EHCT changes the situation that cluster heads communicate directly and selects a relay node in the cluster for each cluster head. The cluster common node which can short the square of communication distance between two cluster heads is selected to be a relay node. The simulation results show that EBCMS and EHCT economize and balance energy consumption of the network and prolong the network lifetime, to a greater or lesser extent.
