With the rapid develeopment of computer software industry, more and more companies have an urge demand of software which afford information.Incremental developmen model is one kind of software life cycle models, it can deliver a version with core functionality to customers early, enabling customer to improve competition nowadays. However, it is a big problem that how to estimate software size effectively and how to make a project plan, which in order to control the project well.This article researches the rule and theory of FPA and introduces some development models, analyzes the limitation of sofeware size measurement in the incremental development by FPA.And then an improved FPA method is raised according to the characteristics of incremental development process.Following are the main contents of the article:Firstly,the base theory and calculate rules of IFPUG FPA and some development models are introduced. Secondly, the shortcoming of IFPUG FPA in incremental model is analysed.To solve this problem, the value adjustment factor is refined, and the system is divided into some subsystem to support improved FPA method. Then, according to the process of improved functional point analysis, we will find some good point to combined with the incremental development process. At last,an example of the calculation is practised, and the comparison is done between the improved FPA and IFPUG FPA, to show that improved FPA is more effective and stable and it can improve product success rate and reduce delivery delay, so as to improve the customer's competition.
