Climate change impacts in different regions and on various aspects of society and the economy such as energy, water, agriculture, and health, and ocean wind is one of the most sensitive factors for climate change. In order to enhance the ability of global climate change analysis and numerical weather prediction capability, accurate and reliable wind field data is needed. Wind field data can be obtained from buoys, ships, and remote sensing observation platforms. Among them, remote sensing measurements plays an important role in the global wind field measurement for its advantage of wide coverage, long time, and good continuity, and a variety of active and passive microwave sensors have become the main access to get ocean wind. The main sensors are:scatterometer, altimeter, spaceborne SAR (synthetic aperture radar) and radiometer etc.SAR become a marine remote sensing research focus because of its high resolution, all-weather and all-time observations. Ground and spaceborne lidar also have ability of getting fast and high-resolution three-dimensional wind field. The methods used to retrieve sea surface wind information from SAR images and CALIPSO data are summarized and discussed as follows:1 We study and analysis the C band inversion mode(CMOD4,CMOD-IFR2,CMOD5),and get the inversion results by ENVISAT ASAR data. The inversion results of QuikSCAT with data are analyzed。2 HH polarization SAR image requires polarization transformation model. The performance of six polarization model is analyzed which shows that Kirchoff model can give us a better result.3 CALIPSO backscattering coefficient of 532nm is used of inversing the sea surface wind speed. Result implies that the method of surface wind speed retrieved from laser radar data is somehow feasible.
