My Uncle Yu Le was written by Guy de Maupassant, a famous French novelist and short story writer of 19th century. After its first publication, it spread widely in Europe, and was translated and introduced to many countries. Chinese translation of Maupassant's works first appeared in China in 1920s, later on some of them were selected into Chinese textbooks of that time. Since the founding of our People's Republic, the fate of My Uncle Yu Le was up and down in textbooks:1950s-1965, selected,1966-1976, left out, in 1978, selected again. During the long period, the interpretation of the story was quite different due to the changes of our social ideology. It can be roughly divided into three periods:1950s-1986, one and only interpretation period; from 1987 to 1997, an instrumental period; and since 1998, a diversified period. The writer of this article looks back on the history that foreign literary works selected into the Chinese textbooks and showed the three periods of its interpretation after the founding of our People's Republic. Thus finds out the evolution of our social ideology. Then the writer puts forward some proposals for selections and teaching of the foreign literary works, especially deeply discusses the relationship between main-angular interpretation and multi-angular interpretation, the boundaries of interpretation of literary works in middle school. Based on these, strategies of interpretation are introduced.
