On Interpretation With Explanations In China's International Communication

China's international communication is intended to broaden mutual understanding and increase the quality of international exchanges and cooperation by providing the information about all aspects of China to foreigners.International communication plays an important role in projecting China's international image and creating an international market.Under the current global situation,international communication is urgently needed for China's overall development.Language barrier is one of the main problems in China's international communication that influences the effectiveness of China's international exchange and cooperation.Therefore,an overall study of the interpretation of China's international communication is not only a necessary but also an urgent task. Considering most of the present researches have been conducted empirically rather than theoretically,this thesis analyzes the influential factors on the quality of interpretation and discuss the function and techniques of method of interpretation with explanations that may effectively penetrate in the classifed interpretation of China's international communications,with an attempt to improve the interpretations' quality and promote the foreign affairs work from the perspective of Newmark's communicative translation theory.Through studies and analysis in practical international communication interpretations,as a member of staff of an International External and Cooperation Division in one of China's universities,I have found that the phenomena of mechanical interpretation,word-for-word interpretation and servile interpretation in the process of foreign affairs interpretation extremely reduce the quality of interpretation.The solution to these problems is the method of interpretation with explanations,which is also a most effective and frequently used method by interpreters in international communication.Therefore,through the studies on translation theory,translation methods and translation cases,the author holds that, under the background of China's international communication,on condition that the interpreters master some translation theories and have the necessary qualifications,the method of interpretation with explanations will definitely improve the quality of interpretation and effectively guide the foreign affairs work.The thesis consists of six parts.The Introduction introduces the current research background of interpretation theories and methods,the research question,predicted research objective and significance.Chapter One briefly introduces the definition,role and brief history of China's international communication including the characteristics of interpretation of international communication under such a background.Chapter Two discusses the main factors which have influences on the quality of interpretation of China's international communication focusing on interpreting procedure, interpreting methods and the interpreter from the perspective of translation theories. Chapter Three mainly reviews the definition of interpretation with explanations, which is penetrating through the diversified interpretation practice empirically,and demonstrates that it is significant and necessary to use this method to improve the quality of interpretation in international communication of China.Both interpretation and international communication aim to achieve a certain effect on their receptors. Based on Newmark's assumption that in communicative translation one has the right to correct or improve the original,adapting and making the thought and cultural content of the original more accessible to the receptor.Chapter Four exemplifies the practical techniques of the method of interpretation with explanations to make the international communication of China more effective.The final conclusion is provided at the end of this thesis.International communication interpretation is a complicated intercultural communication activity. To contribute effective international communication interpretations,in accordance with the characteristics of China's international communication and the discusses on the interpretation with explanations,the interpreter is recommended to use the method of interpretation with explanations under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory to reach the credibility,representability and technicality of interpretation effectiveness.The artful and flexible applications of interpretation with explanations will definitely promote the quality of interpretation and the development of China's international communication.
