System Dynamic Analysis And Management Strategy Of Post-disaster Psychological Assistance

Disasters not only cause huge property damage and physical injury to victims, but also lead to the impact of their psychological being. Psychological assistance after disaster is firmly related to victims'mental health recovery, to the self renewal capacity of remodeling, and also related to long-term stability in the future. The result of psychological assistance in 512 earthquake in Wenchuan was not satisfying. On the one hand, the victims did not receive large-scale psychological stress relief, instead, the majority of them refused the contact with psychological assistance volonteers. On the other hand, numbers of psychological assistance volunteers stopped the rescue and evacuated the affected areas shortly after get involved. It caused some pressure for the entire relief and reconstruction work.Psychological assistance includes many behavior units. The characteristics of complex systems are obvious according to psychological assistance. The Analysis tool of system dynamics is used to sort out the causal relationship among different actors and their behavior in psychological assistance. Based on the analysis of three subsystems, the genaeral system dynamic model of post-disaster psychological assistance is formed. The case study of Wenchuan Earthquake is used to check the validity of the system dynamic model by simulation.Firstly, the system characteristics of post-disaster psychological assistance are analyzed, focusing on integrity, openness, stability and mutation and so on. The whole system is divided into three subsystems, named victim demand subsystem, rescue supply subsystem and rescue support subsystem, whose interactions are analyzed. On this basis, the positive and negative feedback causal loop diagram the main actors and their typical behaviors are established.According to the results of causal analysis, in accordance with the system dynamics of problem solving logic, the variables are carefully defined and distinguished into thre categories: state variables, rate variables and auxiliary variables. Three types of variables are used to integrate the system dynamics equations for different subsystems.Wenchuan earthquake as a case of psychological assistance, are used to simulate and to test the validity of the model. And thus, management countermeasures were given on the aspects of psychological assistance professional training, screening and divising.
