"Deng" is the core concept and the spirit of equiprosody which is an important branch of Chinese phonology. According to ancient studies, there are four kinds of deng, which have presented different characteristics of different times on the rhyme table. Therefore, by analysing all the characteristics of different times, "deng'"s generation, evolution and disapparence can be illustrated. This research begins with the origin of the rhyme deng. Then with the methods of historical comparison of Shou Wen Prosody Fragments and the rhyme tables of early stage and Yuan and Song dynasty, statistical approach and synchronic reference, "deng'"s origin, characteristics, evolution and the replacement of "hu" are described clearly. Finally, the fact of the disapparence of "deng" and "hu" is certificated by the studies of "deng" and "hu" by phonologists at Ming and Qing dynasty, and at last the longitudinal illustration of four kinds of deng is completed. Therefore, this research provides an advantage in the master of rules of Chinese phonological development. |
