The Application Of Cooperative Learning To "oxford English For Senior High School"

As a widely-practiced teaching theory and strategy, cooperative learning has been practiced in classrooms. Since the early 1990s, researchers and teachers in China have begun to introduce cooperative learning into their classrooms.The thesis inquires into the theories of cooperative learning and EFL teaching. The former includes the intention and components of cooperative learning, the basic theories of cooperative learning. The latter includes the basic theories of EFL teaching, the English subject criterion and EFL teaching methods.From a questionnaire, the author gets to know the present problems existing in EFL teaching:the students didn't understand the meaning of cooperative learning and have seldom experienced cooperative learning. It shows that there is a long way for cooperative learning to be adapted to the situation of China.The thesis discusses some main factors which could be applied to EFL teaching in high-school context while using the textbook—"Oxford English for Senior High School". The application has been experimented in the author's class. The collected data and evidence suggest promising potential of cooperative learning in senior high schools. On this basis, the thesis puts forward some strategies concerning two aspects:one is about strategy design for different contents; the other aims at improving group work effectiveness. The thesis has made practical research on cooperative learningThis author is also aware of limits of the present research. And she therefore points out some aspects which need further improvement and research with hope for more effective application of cooperative learning in EFT.This author hopes this thesis will be of value to the upcoming researchers, and it will have some benefits to English teaching and the users of "Oxford English for Senior High School" as well.
