"XiXiangFeng" pattern is one of Chinese traditional decorative patterns, its formation and development has a long history, it's generated from the ancestor's abstract of nature and world movement, and expectation of life extension.Through collecting the historical information, summing up the evolution rule from the development and the vector expression of the "XiXiangFeng" pattern, it is found that "XiXiangFeng" pattern of the Ming and Qing Dynasties is apparently different from the one in other historical periods, but it also gave rise to a visual and cultural feast. From the view of the semiotic in formal language study, it is analyzed insightfully and uniquely with the external features for "XiXiangFeng" patterns of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, such as: "style", "skeleton", "visual elements" and so on. The analysis: The outer skeleton of the pattern is a circular, irregular shape, then being vanish gradually, structure is the inversion symmetry, the complete symmetry ,and then to be approximate symmetry or asymmetry, the main and auxiliary elements are from clearly visible to the rich and full density; The three external characteristics are focus on reflecting the symbolic aesthetic characteristics, showing the full beauty of Static and dynamic contrast, the even beauty of 22 echo, and the rich beauty of world inclusion; Then reveal that the extensive cultural connotations of "XiXiangFeng" pattern symbol are heaven harmony, yin -yang, opposite view of life, love view of men and women, and the lucky outlook of joy and good fortune. "XiXiangFeng" pattern of Ming and Qing Dynasties contains abundant philosophy thought which exist in nature and social, it is a symbol of rotundity complex with orbicular and harmonious"Union", a comparison of yin -yang symmetrical structure of male and female. All of these make the "XiXiangFeng" Pattern become a powerful Symbol with the spirit of life pursue, and the faith of love. At last, it's concluded that the "Encounter" in "XiXiangFeng" of the Ming and Qing Dynasties is a form, but the meaning is "happiness", the perfect combination of form and meaning is better to pass the pattern's verve. Through the symbolic process, the pattern will be revelatory to Modern Visual Communication Design.
