Objective: To evaluate medium-and long-term results of total hip replacement (THR) On patiens'below 55 years. Methods: From 1997 October to December 2004, 144 patients (175 hips) were treated with primary THR in our hospital. Of them, 94patients (102 hips) were followed up clinically and radiographically and so on, during an average period of 7-years and 6-months. The average age at the time of the THR was 36. 9 years. Results: On average, the 7-years and 6- months survival rate of the prosthesis was 92. 1% (94/102) and the Harris hip score was 83. The excellent and good rate was 80. 4% (82/102) . 12 hips had aseptic loosening. The overall loosening rate was 11. 1% (12/102, 2 hips experiencing loosening of both stem and cup) . 6 hips were revised because of aseptic loosening. Of them, 2 hips were revised because of infection. The stem loosening rate was 2. 9% (3/102) and cup loosening rate 8. 8% (49/102) . Radiographic evaluations showed that the rate of osteolysis surrounding stem and that surrounding cup were 25. 6% (26/102) and 17. 3% (17/102) . Conclusion: The medium-and long-term results of primary THR are satisfactory, if we choose indication, consummate operation preparation, choose suitable prosthesis and perfect team of operation, we can elevate long-term clinical curative effect of total hip replacement.
