Objectives:With the development of the study on the four properties of Chinese medicine theory, a large number of literature reports emerge in the fields of theoretical research, experimental research and clinical research. This dissertation tries to propose a reliable assumption, which is for the future research on the four properties of Chinese medicine theory, by sorting out these reports, analyzing current research situation and probing into the existent problems and difficulties. The assumption aims to provide a basis for deepening the research on the four properties of Chinese medicine theory. Methods:There are 204 papers through retrieving key words "four properties of Chinese medicine" in Chinese Journal Full-text Database (CJFD,1979-2010), in Chinese Doctor Master Database (CDMD,1999-2010) and in Chinese Proceedings of Conference Full-text Database (CPCD,1999-2010). This dissertation utilizes literature research methods to analyze the problems and difficulties and make a study on the tendency of the four properties of Chinese medicine.Outcomes:A summary of the modern research situation of the four properties theory is made from the perspectives of theoretical research, experimental research and clinical research. The existent problems in six fields are analyzed. Conclusion:To gain ground-breaking achievements in the research of the four properties theory of Chinese medicine, scientific research ideas are essential and, a high level multi-disciplinary integration platform and combinational methods of macroscopic and microscopic studies in tneoretical research, experimental research and clinical research are indispensable.
