Objective To investigate the clinical features of fulminant type 1 diabetes (F1D).Methods The clinical features of 50 FID patients were analyzed, and compared with the clinical data of F1D patients of Japan.Results①The reported number of F1D cases has increased significantly in recent years. Diagnosed cases reported in the northern hospitals were fewer than those in the southern hospitals. No month preference of F1D was observed.②The average onset age of F1D patients was 29.2±10.6 years, and the constituent ratio of gender was equal. Female patients were more prone to suffering coma (48.0% vs 12.0%, P=0.005).③6.0%(3/50) F1D patients developed after Drug Hypersensitivity Syndrome (DHS), and 32.0%(8/25) female patients were associated with pregnancy, and the outcome of infants was very poor.④All the FID patients used insulin to control blood sugar after discharge. Daily average insulin dose were 37.8±16.1IU.⑤Compared with Japanese patients, Chinese F1D patients had younger age, shorter duration, higher HbAlc and worse pancreaticβcell function at onset.Conclusion①In recent years F1D case reports have increased. The patients are mainly adults and there is no sex difference.②Pregnancy and DHS may be associated with the development of F1D.③Clinical features of Chinese F1D patients are somewhat different with those of Japanese.
