Objective To investigate the expression and significance of VEGF in the femoral head after femoral neck fracture in different periods within one month.Methods 75 specimens of femoral head from patients of femoral neek fracture were selected in this experiment during the period between August of 2009 to July of 2010, and all the cases were operated with joint replacement in the First hospital of Changsha and the Second hospital of Xiangya. All the cases were divided into 3 groups of earlier (3 to 10 days after fracture), middle(11 to 20 days after fracture)and later(21 to 30 days after fracture) period, and each group have 25 cases. The Pathological and Immune-histochemical features of 75 cases were evaluated in the femoral head.Results With the development of femoral neek fracture within one month, the expression of VEGF increased in the femoral head. There was significant difference of the VEGF among three groups verified by statistical analysis(P<0.05). With the development of time, the amount of empty lacuna in femoral head increased, and there was significant difference among three groups verified by statistical analysis(P<0.05).Conclusions With the development of femoral neek fracture within one month, the expression of VEGF in the femoral head increased, and the amount of empty lacuna in femoral head increased.
