The Application Of Training The Trainers Mode In The Nursing Staff Pressure Ulcer Prevention Training

Background Pressure ulcers have become common health concerns, evaluation of the incidence rate is an indicator of quality of care. Pressure ulcer prevention has been troubled medical and nursing staff. Studies have pointed out that the nurse bear in the primary responsibility in the pressure ulcers prevention. Lack of knowledge progress in the pressure ulcers prevention is one of the main obstacles. A survey showed that continuing education seminars is one of the most helpful forms of learning. At present, most domestic hospitals stay in the traditional stage for nursing human resources, there is relatively backward approach to training mode, the desired result is very difficult to achieve.Training The Trainers(TTT) is an educational mode where an organizing institution that houses content-area expertise identifies potential trainers with ties to the community targeted for training. These trainers are provided with education, instructional tools, and programmatic guidelines that enable them to, in turn, provide specific training to target audiences. There are only a few training the trainers on the clinical study reports in the domestic, the majority of studies used in AIDS prevention, and the few researches applied in the other areas. This study will explore how to apply the training the trainers mode to nurses'continue education of pressure ulcer prevention, provided a theoretical basis and practical guidance in the expansion of the training the trainers for further training. Objectives Explore the effect of the training the trainers mode to change nurses'pressure ulcer prevention knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. To set up a continuing education training method for nurses to learn the pressure ulcers prevention, to provide basic data for the further research.Methods The study used a quasi-experimental one group pre-test/post-test design. There are 8 educators, 47 trainers and 89 target nurses participated the training mode. These trainers are provided with education, instructional tools, and programmatic guidelines that enable them to, in turn, provide specific training to target nurses. The measured outcomes are trainers and target nurses'knowledge of pressure ulcer prevention, attitudes of pressure ulcer prevention, trainers'secondary training capacity, and target nurses'behaviors before,1-month and 3-month after the training during pressure ulcer prevention.Results 1.For trainers: After training, the trainers'secondary training capacity score(3.13±0.70)significantly higher than before score(2.77±0.95), the score of trainers'knowledge(7.47±1.18) and attitude(25.17±4.74)of pressure ulcer preventionsignificantly higher than before score(4.47±1.60),(23.15±2.85),showed there were significant increases in the total scores(p<0.05). (p<0.05), Age, work experience, educational background, title, department had no significant effect on the knowledge in the pre-and post-training.2.For target nurses: After training, the score of target nurses'knowledge(5.90±1.32)and attitude(24.88±5.85)of pressure ulcer prevention significantly higher than before score(5.12±1.33),(23.30±3.52),showed there were significant increases in the total scores(p<0.05).Age, work experience, educational background, title, departments had no significant effect on the knowledge in the pre-and post-training.Before,1-month and 3-month after training, there are significant differences in most behaviors (p<0.05).There were significant increases in the percentages of the nurse behaviors in the pressure ulcers prevention.1-month and 3-month after taining,the majority of behaviors were not significantly different (p> 0.05) Conclusion The results indicated that training the trainers mode successfully enhanced nurses'knowledge and attitude, altered the nurse behaviors to pressure ulcer prevention, this mode is effective for continuing education of pressure ulcer prevent.
