Residues of veterinary drugs consist of primary forms, metabolites and impurities of medicines or chemical materials which accumulate in the zooblasts, tissues, organs and edible products after animals such as livestocks and poultries have been contacted with medicines. If residues of veterinary drugs exceeds the allowed figure, it may not only have direct chronic toxic effects to human bodies, inducing enhanced resistance of bacteria to anti-bacterium drug, but also produces indirect latent harm to health through environment or food chains. Furthermore, it may also influence the development of our country's breeding industry and block the way towards international markets. Consequently, it is quite urgently to establish a fast and efficient inspection and administration system. This research can be divided into two studies. In the first study, we compared the technical indicates of ELISA and CHARM II according to different residue limits of veterinary drugs. In the second study, we have inspected 40 export pig farms in Zhejiang provincence during the past 5 years. Results demonstrated that the prohibited medicines (manily Clenbuterol) had been well in control recently. Howerer, it was quite difficult to control the usage of the limited drugs. Residues of veterinary drugs which exceeded the allowed figure in big pigs were primarily composed of sulphonamides and tetracyclins, while those in young pigs mainly were tetracyclins. In conclusions, the research confirms the superiority of immune testing methods in inspection of residues of veterinary drugs. On the other hand, we also develop the testing method. After this research, we has been in charge of the status and changing tendency of residues of veterinary drugs in exported pigs and its products in Zhejiang provincence, and can provid the scientifical guidance for further strengthening of the management of residues of veterinary drugs in the future.
