This study presented the correlation between RAPD bands and the carcass traits in geese by the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. Blood samples for DNA extraction were obtained from Sichuan White geese and commercial individuals of Tianfu Meat geese at the age of 56 days. All performance of the carcass traits were measured after collecting blood samples. 14 random primers were selected from 40. Using these 14 primers, 116 different RAPD bands were found within each population, and the average of bands was 8.28 .The number and the frequency of polymorphic fragments were 108 and 93.10% respectively for Sichuan White geese .while 106 and 91.38% for Tianfu Meat geese. The similarity in heredity varied from 0.4225 to 0.7462 between poupulations. The genetic difference in Sichuan White geese was lower than in Tianfu Meat geese. The difference between the quantitative traits were compared according to the present or the absent of polymorphic bands. 59 significant bands were identified to be associated with specific traits in Sichuan White geese and 56 ones in Tianfu Meat geese. Through the analysis of phenotypic correlation between traits and the regularity of phenotypic distribution of traits, 2 RAPD markers associated with specific trait(H07-10-breast meat weight and H07-10-thigh weight ) were found to be reliable within Sichuan White population and 3 ones within Tianfu Meat population (H03-01-slaughter weighit, H03-01-carcass weight and G12-04-heart weight).
