Opposite character of maize is not a new variation type, but also a high yield breeding germplasm resource . The paper reports opposite and alternate self line and their hybrid combination line characters through opposite transforming breeding, analysis the effect of opposite on maize yield and quality, probe the heredity effect of the opposite hybrid vigor .The results indicate as follows:1. The yield of opposite maize self-crossing line is lower than it of alternate maize self-crossings line. But there are no difference between two lines on quality. Such as their content of protein, lysine and thiosine is no difference even though content of opposite maize oil and starch is higher than it of alternate.2. The opposite character had no adverse effect on the correlation of the character of the productivity and quality of the maize. But the positive relativity of individual productivity and its factors was remarkably improved.3. Although hybrid vigor is popular in opposite, hybrid vigor among alternate maize cross is higher than it among opposite or between opposite and alternate. Alternate maize has higher combining ability and opposite can improve production, so that on the opposite maize breeding, alternate parents containing opposite gene can be use for alternate hybrid breeding to increase yield and quality of maize.4. Oil content of opposite self-line is not higher than it of alternate self-line, but oil content of opposite hybrid vigor is better,At same time, opposite combining ability is higher than alternate and oil content so that we can use high oil content of opposite maize Fl generation to select high oil content hybrid varieties.5. Starch content and combing ability of opposite self-line higher than it of alternate self-line, but starch content of oppositehybrid vigor is bad, so that we can use high starch content alternate maize containing opposite gene as parents to breed high starch content hybrid varieties. Starch content of opposite maize Fl generation is remarkable correlation with single plant production so that we can select high yield and high starch content hybrid maize varieties.The research first reports the effects of transforming opposite on agronomic and correlation heredity characters of maize systemically, which will provide the theoretic basis for selection of opposite and other opposite gene self-line, relation coordinating between yield and quality and parents selection of opposite cross combination.
