Spiny-bellied frog (Paa boulengeri) is of high economic value, which is an edible frog in South China because of its meat with delicate quality and delicious taste, and its large body. Because of the destruction of habitat and the slaughter by human, population of Spiny-bellied frog was progressively decreasing. At present, artificial culture was bounded in mountain imitating eco-culture which can not offer enough frogs. Now, the key step to protect the frogs'wild population and implement large-scale farming were making clear about the influence on reproduction caused by ecological factors in breeding season, and using other water resources. In this paper we probed into the reproductive biology and artificial breeding. We found the best ecological environment by the comparison experiment of ecological factors in breeding season and developed the artificial ponds to solve large-scale breeding problem. The first part we probed into the effect on reproduction and growth caused by 4 ecological factors. The results indicated that:the most appropriate water temperature is 21-23℃; illumination factor had not big influence on reproduction; oxygen content had significant effect on fertilization and incubation rate, when the water oxygen content under 3, the fertilization and incubation rate were lower than the oxygen above 4; artificial feed can increase the growth rate, but because of the difficulty to domesticate Spiny-bellied Frog, the death rate was very high. Using earthworms and silkworms to feed Spiny-bellied frogs was better than tenebrio molitors. In the second part we studied on the feed coefficient and growth rate. The results indicated that:the feed coefficient had three stages—high, low and high; the feed coefficient was 5.4% when hibernation is over; the feed coefficient declined in reproduction peak period and then rosed back gradually. The growth rates also had three stages—slow, quick and slow; weight rate declined in reproduction peak period, but body length had changed a little. In the third part according to the frogs'gonad development, the results indicated that:hibernating female frogs'gonad maturity index was higher than the non-hibernating; the male's had nothing with hibernating or not; hibernating frogs' egg laying amount and absolute fecundity were all higher than the non-hibernating.In the fourth part we studied in the relation among artificial breeding, artificial impregnation and nature breeding. And we observed the behaviour of Paa boulengeri in reproduction period. The results indicated that:artificial breeding was better than d nature breeding. And there were significant difference in aggression dislodging fighting between male and female. In the last part we introduced the pond construction and the feeding management of Spiny-bellied frog in reproduction period.
