With the continuous development of the automotive industry, vehicle, originally as a mechanical tool in our production and daily life, has developed into an intelligent and integrated multi-information interaction platform. Apart from being required to meet our basic needs, the vehicle is also expected to work for us as an assistant to deal with more and more complex things in a variety of environments. As the automotive electronic technology evolves, the computer embedded technology is also introduced, based on which the controller of the vehicle electronic controlling system has gradually become a controlling core for both large vehicles and luxury cars. Vehicle electronic controlling system controller is mainly used for the collection of various kinds of operating parameters from devices on modern vehicles. Meanwhile, the correctness of the data even in a complex environment is guaranteed and a proper response should be given, according to the software settings. Vehicle controller is a combination product of the techniques of embedded computer and automation and control. With the help of the MCU chip in a controller, real-time data processing and device driving functions are realized.In this thesis, a universal controller prototype for the vehicle electronic controlling system is developed, based on a microcontroller of M68HC908GZ16. The controller is able to collect different types of electrical parameters and carry out the operations of port driving and PWM signal output. It is also capable of checking the status of output ports and detecting a variety of error conditions to meet the requirement of a complex running environment. CAN bus technology is introduced so that the controller can conduct the exchange of information with other electrical equipment. Further, to increase the controller's reliability a dual CAN mode is designed. As a general-purpose controller, it can adapt to a plenty of engineering applications.Developers can configure I/O ports specifically with underlying software.Digital Input (DI) ports are used for digital inputs and the signal input of controller's power switch. Analog input (AI) ports are used to input analog voltage signals. Developers, by programming, can enable AI ports' hardware filtering function. Output driving ports have the capabilities of high-voltage and low-voltage output drivings and are able to provide port status information for the system software.
