The average power factor of 110kV power supply system is more than 0.95 in Zhongyuan Oilfield Area, which has reached the national standard requirements. But the power factor of the oil distribution system is low chronically, generally in the region of 0.7~0.8, and the minimum in individual oil is at below 0.5. In order to improve the power factor of oil distribution system, Zhongyuan Oilfield now generally installs an automatic reactive power compensation device to track and compensate, according to the level of capacity to adjust, while uses AC contactor to switched capacitor in low-voltage side of transformer metering station.(according to the survey: the electrical load of oil pumping unit ,which of power factor has determined the level of the entire power distribution system, was more than 65% of the total load. To improve the power factor of overall allocation network, we must study the characteristics of pumping unit and the changes of reactive power load).The load of pumping unit is a load in cyclical changes according to the pumping stroke. In its operation process, the active power, reactive power and power factor of electric power system are constantly changed. So the changes of power factor have not accurately reflected the needs to system's reactive power. Thus, presently the automatic compensating device, which according to the power factor to regulate reactive power compensation can't reach the intended purposes of compensation.Aiming at the above problems, in order to understand the characteristics of reactive power distribution of the oil distribution system in the mass, the writers of the article analyzes the operating characteristics of pumping unit load, and the status quo of reactive power compensation in Zhongyuan oil field. Besides, on the base of field test, according to "efficiency first" principle, this paper bring forward a reactive power compensation plan with reliable technology and reasonable economic to pumping unit load of distribution system in Zhongyuan Oilfield, which can enhance oil distribution system power factor and attain the objective of save energy.
