Optics-electron detection technology is a passive target detection and tracking of work means, which has good concealment, strong intuition, high anti-interference capability and precision tracking. Thus it can replace or assist radar tracking system, and can be an effective means to enhance the detection capability of weapons platforms. Nowadays, most of the optics-electron detection technology is not good at tracking armed helicopters, because of the high mobility and low altitude flying capability of armed helicopters. So it is very important for in-depth studying of the technology's video tracking algorithm, and improving the algorithm's performance. When we study armed helicopter video tracking problems, often require a variety of flying helicopters in the state of video data. Now, we can use the visual simulation technology to simulate helicopter flight, and generates the video data.According to the helicopter flight characteristics, this paper used the mathematical methods to describe five motor flying which is the level flight speed, diving obstacle, level turns, somersaults and maneuver. This is the base for helicopter flight simulation. Then, based the analysis of classic video Mean Shift tracking algorithm, this paper proposed a bandwidth adaptive video tracking algorithm with foreground separation. This algorithm used foreground separation and background-weighted color histogram to reduce background noise, and established a template update mechanism. The algorithm is also combined with Kalman filter to track the object with occlusion and fast moving. Finally, the algorithm uses color information in tracking window to automatically adjust the window size.Based on the above work, this paper developed a helicopter video tracking system. On the server side, it achieved vision-based helicopter flight simulation, and the client realized the helicopter video tracking. The helicopter video tracking system achieved a series of functions that a helicopter flight simulation, helicopter video tracking, remote control of virtual photoelectric detectors, control virtual helicopter with joystick and network communications.
