The CHALIN River Bridge is the engineering background of this paper. According to the characteristic of the railway bridge, the synthesis analysis was accomplished for using the carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) to reinforce the prestressed concrete railway bridge, including the lab test and field construction, field test and finite elements calculation.The paper discussed the relationship of the ultimate bearing capacity of the felexural concrete member, the size and lays of CFRP and the depty of original crack, and summarized the construction flow and technics of CFRP for reinforcing the prestressed concrete railway bridge. Furthermore, the finite elements theory was used to analyze the character of a prestressed concrete bridge before and after reinforcement. The results of field test were accorded with the results calculated by finite elements theory.The improved carrying capacity and dynamical performance of the reinforced prestressed concrete bridge proved the availability of CFRP to reinforce the railway bridge. The research results offered a successful case for reinforcing the prestressed concrete bridge for the future.
