Virtual Reality is a man-made media space which is copied or created by people depending on computer technology, sensors technology and simulation technology. The development of computer graphics interaction gives birth to virtual reality technology, which makes a strong impact on human being and is applied widely now. In has been used in many fields, such as aeronautics & astronautics, electronic commerce, education, architecture, medical treatment etc. Web-based instruction with the aid of virtual reality technology has become an important part of modern education. The realization of teaching platform for simulation of the packaging machine meets the needs of education's development. Many new packaging machine tools can be simulated in the computer in order to help students easily to understand the structure and motion of packaging machine tools. What is more, it can promote the efficiency of teaching packaging machine and resolve insufficiency of experiment resources.As a software technology of Virtual Reality, Java 3D is the extention of Java in the three-dimensional field. As it has fast modeling speed, high transmission efficiency on the Internet and easily being extended, Java 3D has become a wonderful tool used Virtual Reality in the packaging machine teaching.The application of Java 3D in packaging machine teaching demonstration is researched; the packaging machine teaching demonstration platform based on Java 3D and Pro/E is set up; the program frame of teaching platform and the development process of the packaging machine motion simulation are researched; based on the actual development experience, five modeling principles of packaging machine parts are proposed, the efficiency of importing model into Java 3D is improved; methods of background design, importing VRML model design, animation design, virtual assembly and interactive design are studied during the developing course of packaging machine tools motion teaching demonstration, the difficulties and skills are emphasized in the animation design.
