Water distribution system is the lifeline of a city, which concerns the life of townsman and the city economy.In view of the exiting problems in the optimization research of water supply system at present, the intellectualized optimization methods such as genetic algorithm are applied to the optimal design and operation of water supply system. And the mathematical models together with the corresponding solution methods are improved. This paper aims to enhance the practicality of the intellectualized optimization technology.There are still some deficiencies in the optimal design of water supply network based on genetic algorithm in security and economy aspects. In this paper, the mathematical model of the optimal design of water supply network is improved according to these deficiencies. Meanwhile, multi-mode optimal design of water supply network of which the flow has been initially allocated is proposed. Based on these, the water supply network of export processing zone in Qingdao is optimized and the practicability of this design method is verified. At the same time, the corresponding computer program and software which can be used widely in the optimal design of water supply network are developed using Visual C++ 6.0.After establishing the computer graphic, on-site testing, collecting basic data, and determining node demand together with pipe frictional resistance of water supply network of Maanshan, the microscope model of Maanshan is established overall. And the accuracy of the model is checked.Based on the microscope model of water supply system of Maanshan, the two-stage optima] operation model is researched and improved emphatically. The mechanism and characteristic of the variable speed pump is analyzed in detail. Meanwhile the two-stage optimal operation model of water supply system is established, in which the constant speed pumps and the variable speed pumps can operate in parallel. Then the optimal operation model of Maanshan is solved by genetic algorithm. In addition, four evaluation indices, named flow coincidence, pressure coincidence, pump efficiency and direct power consumption respectively, are established to evaluate the operation scheme and verify the practicability and rationality of the optimal operation method. At the same time, the corresponding computer program and optimization operation software of water supply network are developed using Visual C++ 6.0.
