Drilling pump is one of three working groups of drilling rig. and it is the key equipment of drilling fluid circulation. According to installation position of pump valve, there are three types pump heads of "I","L" and 'T" in the world at present. Comparing with "I"-type. "T"-type has the advantages of compact structure, smooth flow, replacing inhalation valve very conveniently and so on. There are less researches on flow field of pump head in domestic. In order to analyse and compare distribution of flow field of the pump head between "I"-type and "T"-type, and select "T"-type pump head of stabler fluid field and more convenient replacement of the valve between the two different "T"-type pump head structure, the article firstly analyses the flow field of the "I" and "T"-type pump head by means of applying dynamics analysis software CFX, and makes optimization design for "T"-type structure by Ansys-Workbench. Results have been achieved as follows:1,The distribution of the mud flow is basically agreement with the actual situation throught analysing the pump head-flow field of "I" and "T"-type structure by CFD.2,The flow field of "I"-type pump head is more disordered than that of "T"-type, and "T"-type pump head is more beneficial to protect the valves and the valve seat plate comparing with "I" type pump head under the same boundary conditions by analysing the state of mud flow structure of three types of pump head.3,During structure optimization analysis. the best fillet radius of the intersecting line has been obtained by optimizing the pump head under condition of taking the fillet radius of the intersecting line as the variable, and taking the fatigue life of the pump head as the objective function. The optimized the fatigue life has an increase of 32.5 percent through analysing the fatigue life of pump head at the basic of this best fillet radius.In this paper, the method of applying finite element analysis to evaluate the structural properties of mud pump head has been established and this method has higher reference value for the design of pump head. At the same time, a group of the finite element program of analyzing and improving fatigue life has been developed. The program has a certain reference value for the value of the transition fillet of intersection of the structure of the pump head line.
